Today, April 2, is International Autism Awareness Day.
International Autism Awareness Day In many countries, buildings and other structures are illuminated in blue, symbolizing the fact that autism is more common in boys.
Autism is a disorder that is affecting more and more people, including socializing, adaptive behavior, and speech development. It is not a separate disease. It is a set of syndromes caused by different causes with different clinical manifestations.
The following three areas are most affected by autism:
- social relationship
- communication
- behavior
The incidence of autism is 12: 10,000, which is 4-5 times more common in boys.
A child with autism has difficulty communicating with people around them և establishing relationships. Such children seem isolated, disconnected from reality. They do not communicate with the people around them, do not talk or play like other children. At the same time they show stereotypical behavior.
Most children with autism have mental retardation. It is true that some children seldom have well-developed individual abilities, such as performing complex numerical calculations, solving intricate puzzles, displaying an amazing memory, and displaying great skills in the arts and music.
There is no one-size-fits-all cure for autism, but appropriate rehabilitation and educational interventions can partially overcome the problem by helping to adapt to the environment, to be independent, to perceive the outside world and the people there.
Q. The Cox Rehabilitation Center is attended by 10 children with progressive developmental disorders, including autism.
Rehabilitation services are provided through the collaboration of multidisciplinary team members. The special attitude of the staff towards the children և their parents, the general friendly atmosphere make the rehabilitation treatment more effective.
Early detection, assessment, early intervention, appropriate care, medical and social rehabilitation of such children, as well as the education of their parents, are the best preconditions for ensuring the social integration and well-being of children.
