December 3 is the Day of Protection of the Rights of the Disabled. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was first adopted by the United Nations in 1992. In December 2006, Armenia acceded to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The highlight of the day is not that it urges us to show a caring, compassionate attitude towards people with disabilities, but a signal to us to ensure their vitality, to give them the full opportunity to express their potential in various spheres of public life.
On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, December 3, the event focuses on the problems of persons with disabilities, drawing their attention to the protection of their dignity, protection of their rights and welfare, as well as focusing on the benefits of public participation in political, social, economic and cultural life. thanks: This day was proclaimed for the full and equal participation of the disabled in the life of the society, for the protection of human rights. These goals are set out in the International Plan of Action for Persons with Disabilities, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1982.
Due to the Artsakh war, the number of wounded and disabled people in Artsakh increased. Despite the urgency, there was no rehabilitation center that would have an appropriate treatment plan to treat people with disabilities.
The Rehabilitation Center was initiated by Baroness Caroline Cox, who, as a former nurse, was well aware of the need for it.
1998 The Rehabilitation Center was officially opened by Baroness Caroline Cox, Vice-Speaker of the United Kingdom House of Lords in September 2006.
In March 1999, Vardan Tadevosyan, a rehabilitation therapist and lecturer, moved to Artsakh at the invitation of Caroline Cox, becoming the center’s founding director.
Our mission is to provide rehabilitation treatment to people with disabilities, to integrate them into society, and to promote their independence.
The Rehabilitation Center attaches great importance to the organization of various activities for people with physical and mental problems, with the aim of strengthening the connection with society, peers, adaptation to the social environment, and improving the quality of life.
We try to develop sports for the disabled in Artsakh. Involvement of people with disabilities has a special place in sports life. Young people with disabilities being treated at the Rehabilitation Center are involved in various sports take an active part in sports events organized in the Republic of Armenia .The center has the following services: Rehabilitation doctor’s consultation, Physical therapy, ergotherapy, bobat-neurodevelopmental therapy, psychologist-speech therapist service, social service, hydrotherapy, sports, information technology , art courses. These services are used by outpatients, inpatients and day care recipients at the center.
The Rehabilitation Center has had a home visit since its inception, serving more than 120 people with severe disabilities to continue their in-home treatment and receive our support. The center has trained specialists in Hadrut, Martuni and Martakert regions, whose mission is to conduct physical-occupational therapy in the hospitals of the mentioned regions.
There is an educational department in the Rehabilitation Center, where relevant specialists are trained, both to fill the staff of the center and to the hospitals of different regions of Artsakh . The center attaches great importance to continuing education, during which specialists from different countries of Armenia are invited to give lectures and exchange experiences.
2006 A medical pool (hydrotherapy) was opened in the center in July 2010. 2007 A children’s health center was opened in the rehabilitation center on June 1, 2012, where children with mental and physical problems between the ages of two and seven receive and receive treatment.
2017 On May 2, a day care center was set up at the Rehabilitation Center to improve the quality of life of children diagnosed with autism. More than 50 children receive annual treatment at the center
